Grammy award winner to perform in Grand Rapids

Judy Collins, award-winning singer and songwriter, will be coming to St. Cecilia Music Center in Grand Rapids on Thursday, Feb. 1. 

Tickets are on sale for $45 and $55 and can be purchased by calling the St. Cecilia Music Center at 616-459-2224 or online at www.scmc-online.org.

Elton John stopping in Grand Rapids during his final tour

On Monday, Oct. 15, Elton John will be coming to the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids during his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour. This will be the last tour of his musical career, so if you’ve ever wanted to see Elton John live, now is the time. 

Tickets go on sale for the general public on Friday, Feb. 2, beginning at 10 a.m. Ticket prices range from $49.50 to $224.50 and will be available for purchase at the Van Andel Arena and DeVos Place box offices, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Only eight tickets can be purchased per customer. 

GVSU alumna to give saxophone recital

Lisa Keeney, a saxophonist and GVSU graduate, will be giving a recital Thursday, Feb. 1, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in 1325 Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall in the Haas Center for Performing Arts. 

Keeney will be joined by Kathryn Goodson, a pianist from the University of Michigan School of Music. The recital will feature music from César Franck, Piet Swerts, Christian Lauba and Annika Socolofsky. The event is free and open to the public.

Sacred sites tour: West Michigan Hindu Temple

Campus Interfaith Resources is continuing its sacred sites tour Friday, Feb. 2, from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. The group will visit the West Michigan Hindu Temple in Ada, Michigan, which will give students an opportunity to learn more about the Hindu faith.

GVSU Opera Theatre presents ‘Oklahoma!’

Come support Grand Valley State University students in their production of “Oklahoma!”, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s first musical collaboration. Christopher Carter, GVSU alumnus, will be directing the show.

Showings are Friday, Feb. 9, and Saturday, Feb. 3 and Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11, at 2 p.m in the Louis Armstrong Theatre in the Haas Center for Performing Arts. Admission is $14 for adults; $12 for GVSU faculty, alumni and staff; and $6 for students. 

‘Jerusalem’ movie to be shown at Celebration Cinema North

The National Geographic award-winning movie “Jerusalem” will be showing at Celebration Cinema North on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m. The film offers three different vantage points of Judaism, Christianity and Islam that allow viewers to experience and understand the Holy City.

Following the movie, two pastors, one rabbi and one imam from Grand Rapids will share their experiences from their trip to Israel and Palestine. This event is LIB 100- and 201-approved.
