GVSU theater program presents ‘Cabaret’

The Grand Valley State University theater program is continuing its performances of “Cabaret” from Thursday, Nov. 30, through Sunday, Dec. 3. The Thursday-Saturday showings are at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday showing is at 2 p.m. 

Additionally, there will be a “talk back” audience discussion after the showing on Thursday in the Linn Maxwell Keller Black Box Theatre in the Haas Center for Performing Arts. This will be an opportunity to discuss Cabaret’s themes and their implications in the modern world after 50 years.  

Tickets are on sale for $12 for adults; $10 for seniors, faculty and staff; and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the door but will be at a $1 additional cost.

Fall dance concert to be held

Grand Valley State University’s Dance Company and the Freshman Dance Company will be hosting their fall recital Saturday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Louis Armstrong Theatre of the Haas Center for Performing Arts. 

Students will perform various dance works, showcasing a variety of techniques, including modern, ballet, jazz and pointe. Admission is free, and the show is open to the public.

Spotlight Productions to show ‘The Santa Clause’

Disney’s “The Santa Clause,” starring Tim Allen, will begin playing in the Big Screen Theater in the Kirkhof Center on Friday, Dec. 1.

Showtimes are at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Additionally, there will be popcorn provided for the first showing at 9 p.m. Students can choose which movies they would like to see in the theater at www.gvsu.edu/studentlife/programming. Movies are selected during the final three weeks of every semester.

Dept. of Visual and Media Arts to host senior exhibit

The Department of Visual and Media Arts at Grand Valley State University will display a senior showcase through multiple exhibitions through the month of December. Students can view pieces throughout the Allendale and Pew campuses in areas such as ceramics, printmaking, jewelry, metals and photography. 

“The Five Chapters: Senior Thesis Exhibition” will be on display in the GVSU Art Gallery in the Haas Center for Performing Arts until Saturday, Dec. 9. There will be a reception for the exhibit Thursday, Nov. 30, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Additionally, there will be a “Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Graphic Design Exhibit” from Monday, Dec. 4, through Thursday, Dec. 7, in the Stuart and Barbara Padnos Art Gallery in the Calder Art Center, with a reception Dec. 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

There will also be capstone and emphasis student presentations, including three Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibitions and a film/video showcase on Thursday, Dec. 14, in the Loosemore Auditorium of the DeVos Center from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
