Letter to the Editor: Graduate student wants more say in funding

Dear Emanuel Johnson,

After reading the story posted in the Dec. 8, 2011 Lanthorn’s article “For us, it’s really about governance and funding”, I feel appalled about how the money from the Student Life Fund is distributed. As a current graduate student, I do not have the time or resources to attend any of the required meetings at the Allendale campus to apply for the money. The opportunity cost of attending or enjoying any of the organization or student life activities at the Allendale campus does not equate to many of the graduate students attending these activities. I would like to see a stronger voice for the graduate student’s use of these funds. Why is there not an equal portion of these funds applied to functions that I could and would like to attend? Is there a petition that I could sign to create a seperate graduate student voice?
