Turf building renamed in honor of former coach and hall of famer Brain Kelly

Former Grand Valley State University football coach and current school Hall of Famer Brian Kelly was honored this week after the Laker Turf Building was renamed the Kelly Family Sports Center.

Currently the head football coach at the University of Notre Dame, Kelly led the Lakers to a pair of NCAA Division II Football National Championships, while compiling a 118-35-2 record during his 13 years at the helm.

The 138,000 square foot facility will honor Kelly’s accomplishments at GVSU, while still serving as a location for students to participate in intramural sports as well as open use of the track and class rooms.

Also in the facility is a regulation football field, 300-meter track, ceiling-hung batting cages and other athletic amenities.
