Letter to the Editor: You should be on Student Senate

Eric-John Szczepaniak, Student Body President

Are you a collaborative thinker? Do you aspire to make positive change in your community? Apply for Student Senate today! You can go to gvsu.edu/studentsenate to learn more about us and to apply or leave a comment on what you want changed here at GVSU.

Student Senate’s main goal is to be a voice for all GVSU students when it comes to bringing their concerns, suggestions, or ideas to the faculty and/or university departments of Grand Valley. Throughout the school year, we work on projects, pass resolutions, and vote on important topics regarding the best interests of the student body.

The Student Senate continues to accomplish a variety of improvements for the campus community. In recent years, the Senate has helped to lower textbook costs, establish a mid-fall semester break, and co-author a final exam reschedule policy (if a student has three or more exams on a single day). Senate efforts continue with initiatives to create prayer and meditation space at the downtown campus, increase Meal Plan options, establish an on campus voting precinct, and increase the number of GVSU students registered to vote.

We are currently in the process of recreating the mission and vision of Student Senate through the creation of an in depth strategic framework. Senate offers students the ability to grow in their leadership skills and build authentic relationships with students across a wide array of backgrounds and interests.

Please feel free to contact us to receive an application or share your thoughts about how to improve anything here at GVSU. It is up to all of us to make sure that this institution is accessible to all Lakers. We look forward to hearing from you!

*Student Senators must be available after 4:30pm on Thursdays to attend the General Assembly each week in Allendale. Senators cannot have a 6pm class this day either.*
