GVSU women’s tennis remains undefeated, defeats Michigan Tech

On Saturday, Oct. 12, the Grand Valley State women’s tennis team defeated the Michigan Tech Huskies, 4-3, for their sixth win of the season.

Singles’ action saw the Lakers open the match with a win, as Vera Griva won from the No. 1 spot (6-2, 7-5) and Taylor Barrett earned a win from the No. 2 spot (7-6, 6-3). From the No. 4 spot, Marily Canellopoulos dominated for a win (6-4, 6-2).

The Lakers were able to sweep the Huskies in doubles play to give GVSU an overall doubles record of 20-7.GVSU will play their final regular season tennis matches this weekend, as they travel to face Wayne State on Saturday, Oct. 19, and travel to Ashland for a match with the Eagles the following day.

GVSU Men’s Club Rugby sits on top in Great Lakes Conference

The GVSU men’s rugby club currently holds the No. 1 spot in the Great Lakes conference coming off an impress win this past weekend against Bethel University, 17-12. They currently tied for first in the conference with Saginaw Valley State University.

The men’s rugby team has a couple big games later this month, as they travel to face SVSU on Saturday, Oct. 19 to take on the undefeated SVSU Cardinals in hopes to gain sole ownership of the No. 1 spot in the Great Lakes Conference.

Following that weekend, the Lakers will host Ferris State University on Saturday, Oct. 26, in the team’s final home game of the season.
