Recreation and Wellness partners to offer STD testing

Half of all sexually active young people will get an STD before the age of 25, but many don’t realize it until long after the initial infection due to a lack of symptoms. Though all sexually transmitted diseases are treatable (with most being completely curable), they can lead to serious health problems if left diagnosed, even those that don’t cause symptoms early on.

In order to help combat the potential consequences of undiagnosed STDs, Grand Valley State University’s Recreation and Wellness Department is partnering with the Ottawa County Department of Public Health to provide free and confidential testing on campus. From 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, tests will be available in Holton-Hooker room 107A.

CAB hosts magician, mentalist Mark Toland

On Thursday, Nov. 5, Grand Valley State University’s Campus Activities Board is hosting a night of virtual entertainment with a performance from Mark Toland. A professional magician and mentalist, Toland’s show involves “reading the minds” of the audience members in attendance.

Learn about health care during COVID

Grand Valley State University has long hosted monthly Health Forums of West Michigan in collaboration with community partners and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, but in 2020 their discussions have become more relevant to the public than ever. As the world enters into the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, GVSU is hosting doctors from all over West Michigan to speak on a panel discussing the delivery of health care during a pandemic.

The online forum will be held over Zoom from 8-9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, and is free and open to all members of the public. Those interested in attending can register through the Midwest Interprofessional Practice, Education, and Research Center’s website at www.gvsu.edu/miperc.
