GV welcomes new basketball recruits

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at GVSU have a new pair of commitments. Heritage forward Parker Day has verbally committed to being a Laker. Day chose GVSU over other offers from Central Michigan, Saginaw Valley, and Lake Superior State.

Byron Center guard Avery Zeinstra has committed to the women’s team. Last season Zeinstra led Byron Center to a 19-2 record as she averaged 16 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. In the past two seasons, Zeinstra was named an OK Green All-Conference player. Last year she was named to the Grand Rapids Dream Team.

GV Athletics approved for Make-A-Wish reveal

GVSU is one of three schools to have the opportunity to host a NCAA Make-A-Wish reveal.

The Student Athletes Advisory Council raised $10,000 in 2019 for donations to Make-A-Wish. Last year, Division II schools raised over $205,000 in donations collectively. Since 2003, the total has been more than $6.4 million and DII schools have granted over 760 wishes.

The contributions made by GVSU in 2019 were the third highest among DII schools and was the highest in the GLIAC. Someday soon, GVSU will have a chance to reveal a wish to a deserving child.
