Join discussions and activities about body positivity

On Jan. 27, the Center for Women and Gender Equity is hosting a meeting on body positivity. The meeting, which is taking place in Room 1142 in the Kirkhof Center, will have opportunities for open discussion and activities surrounding body positivity. The NIARA program, which is designed to increase the sense of community centered on the experiences of those identifying as women of color, will also be discussed. The event is open to anyone, no RSVP required and attendees are encouraged to bring friends. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Make cards for children’s hospitals

As part of their two-week rush schedule, Alpha Phi Omega is hosting a service event on Jan. 25 where students can make cards to pass out to hospitalized children. The event, which will take place in room 2201 in the Kirkhof Center, is open to anyone who wants to participate. Card-making supplies will be provided, but APO recommends bringing coloring utensils if possible. More details can be found on LakerLink.

Hear spoken word poetry and other performances at Queer the Air

On Jan. 26, the Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center is hosting Queer the Air, a spoken word and open mic event. The event will take place in room 1161 in the Kirkhof Center. Performance slots are open to anyone, but anyone looking to perform needs to sign up ahead of time. Registration will close at 7 p.m. the night of the event, but registration slots will be limited. Decide if graduate school is the right move

On Jan. 27, the Graduate School and Office of Admissions is hosting a virtual discussion that aims to help students decide if graduate school is the right move for them. The event will cover tips for preparing to graduate school, tips for enhancing graduate school applications and answer questions on whether graduate school is worth attending. This discussion is open to GVSU students and students from other universities, and will be held again every few weeks until the end of May. Learn suicide prevention training using QPR

On Jan. 24, the University Counseling Center is hosting suicide prevention training in room 2270 in the Kirkhof Center. The training session will use the QPR method, which stands for “Question, Persuade, Refer” and eliminates misconceptions about suicide, helps students recognize warning signs of suicide and encourages students to save lives. This event, which is INT 100 approved, will recur on Mar. 16 and Apr. 7.
