Sneak Peak Classes
Starting Aug. 22 the Grand Valley State University Recreation Center will be hosting a sneak peak week of group exercise classes.
This mini-schedule will be offered to students for free as a preview of
what to expect during the school year. Group exercise classes held by the Recreation Center include: Zumba, SPIN, Insanity, G3 and more. The full
schedule of group exercise classes will begin Aug. 29. All information and a
list of group exercise classes along with membership fees can be found at www.gvsu.edu/rec.
Lawn Movie
Grand Valley State University Spotlight
Productions will host the annual Outdoor Movie event on the Kirkhof Center’s
East lawn Aug. 27. This year, the event will feature the movie “Neighbors 2” and is free
of charge. The event starts at 8 p.m. with the movie beginning at 9 p.m.
Housing Block Party
Grand Valley State University housing and residence life
will host a welcome back block party Aug. 28 on the Kirkhof Center lawn.
This event is for all GVSU students to gather, socialize and have fun before
the first day of class begins. The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 5
p.m. and will include games, food, activities and giveaways. Visit www.gvsu.edu/housing for more information.
Rec Fest
Grand Valley State University’s annual Rec Fest event will
take place Aug. 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Recreation Center. The
open house will showcase the newly expanded facilities and host a semester
kickoff party for students. The night will include giveaways, free group
exercise classes and access to the climbing center. Students will also have a
chance to sign up for club and intramural sports teams during this time. Visit www.gvsu.edu/rec for more details.
Laker Kickoff Party
The Grand Valley State University Traditions Team invites all students to help welcome the university’s newest
Lakers to campus Aug. 24. The kickoff party event will begin at 9 p.m. at Fieldhouse Arena and will include music, dancing, food, giveaways and games. All
students are welcome to join in the annual community-building activity.
Detroit Entreprenuership Competition
During the Detroit Entrepreneurship Competition, four students claimed first prize for their ideas about fresh food in Detroit. The students all attend a Grand Valley State University- authorized charter schools around Michigan. Their idea was regarding innovative ways to bring in fresh food into the city of Detroit. The proposed plan was to have food directly from Detroit’s Eastern Market and have it delivered to the surrounding neighborhoods. The winning prize was $2,500.
Meijer Mania
On Thursday, Meijer will be hosting their annual ‘Meijer Mania’ from 8 p.m. until midnight. Free prizes and giveaways are available as well as great deals on dorm room essentials. Busses will be shuttling students to and from Meijer throughout the night.
