My weekly R.E.P.O.R.T inspired by TikTok

If you are on TikTok you may have heard of the Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. The trend essentially uses TikTok’s new feature of a photo slideshow versus their typical video format. The user picks photos that follow the R.E.P.O.R.T format, an acronym that I will define and go into personal detail with, is a fun and creative way to show your week in photos.

R stands for reading. You post a photo of what you are currently reading and a brief description using TikTok’s text tool. E stands for eating. You choose a photo of something you ate that week that you loved and recommend or you can post an aesthetic photo of something like your coffee. P stands for playing. An example of playing could be literal. You could post a photo of you and your dog playing fetch in the fall leaves, or you could post a photo of you “playing” around with what outfit combination you were going to wear to class. O stands for obsessing. This is the most open-ended one in my opinion, and I love seeing what other people are loving or dreading during their week. I almost always obsess over my cat or my at-home matcha recipe that I finally mastered. The other R stands for recommending. You can recommend a makeup product, skincare, a hot girl walk session, a podcast, etc. This is another open-ended section of the R.E.P.O.R.T. Lastly, T stands for treating. I always treat myself to self-care or to a fun coffee drink. I especially need caffeine during the school week to push through classes!

I just recently posted a TikTok following the guidelines of this trend, and mine was centered around a visit to Chicago.

R(reading)- “Braiding Sweetgrass” written by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Kimmerer was at Grand Valley State University on Wednesday, Nov. 8, so it was amazing to read her work and then meet her in person.

E(eating)- Chicken and waffles. I was invited to Chicago for a Public Relations Diversity, Equity & Inclusion conference, and I ate the most life-changing chicken and waffles at a brunch restaurant.

P(playing)- Exploring around in Chicago!

O(obsessing)- Over the results of my interview at the PR event I attended. I was proud of how it went and how well I did for being so on the spot.

R(recommending)- Dunkin’s sweet cookie cold foam, which is fire compared to my typical matcha by the way.

T(treating)- Getting my nails done with my boyfriend’s mother. My boyfriend is from Chicago, so I don’t always get to visit his family. When I do, I always cherish it, so it was nice to get my nails done with his mom.

I love this trend because of how versatile it can be and how it varies so much from week to week. You can share what you enjoy and see what other people highlight. With social media sometimes being overwhelming to scroll, however, this trend brings a new lighthearted way to connect with others.
