On Thursday, April 12, the Grand Valley State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held the second annual Anchor Awards. The event was designed to recognize the achievements of GVSU student athletes, while also fundraising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 

The committee voted and awarded various student athletes and teams for their achievements this season.

Team of the Year: Women’s Track and Field

Male Athlete of the Year: Nick Keizer (football)

Female Athlete of the Year: Gabriella Mencotti (women’s soccer)

Leadership Award: Taylor Parmley (women’s basketball)

Grit Award: Meghan Datema (lacrosse)

Male Freshman of the Year: Jake Van Tubbergen (men’s basketball)

Female Freshman of the Year: Jessica Eby (women’s track and field)

Male Breakthrough Athlete: Ude Fuchs (men’s swimming)

Female Breakthrough Athlete: Cassidy Boensch (women’s basketball)

Comeback Player: Mitchell White (men’s golf)

Best Male GPA: Chris May (men’s track and field)

Best Female GPA: Grace Peterson (women’s track and field)

Individual Community: Hailey Garlich (women’s swimming)

Best Game: Women’s basketball versus No. 1 ranked Ashland at home

Best Moment: Men’s swimming and diving winning the GLIAC Championship

Team Community: Volleyball
