Hauenstein Center presents ‘Character and the Presidency’

Grand Valley State University’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies, in partnership with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum, is set to host its second biennial “Character and the Presidency” event. 

The event, which will be held Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will feature David Brooks, an author, political commentator and writer for The New York Times, as well as U.S. historian, lecturer and author Ronald C. White.

An excerpt from the event description reads, “No subject could be more timely and important for the promotion of ethical, effective leadership in the (21st) century.”

First Wellness Summit to be held on GVSU campus

Grand Valley State University will hold its first-ever Wellness Summit Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second floor of the Kirkhof Center.

This event is sponsored by GVSU’s Health and Wellness task force. It will feature tabling by campus wellness programs and vendors, short presentations from university community members, a flue vaccine clinic, and cooking demonstrations.

Students harvest pounds of honey from bees on campus

As honey bees continue to disappear, researches from all over the world, including Grand Valley State University students and faculty members, are looking for the reason why. 

This September, the GVSU Beekeepers, a group of students who are actively involved in managing honey bees, harvested more than 360 pounds of honey from apiaries, or hive collections, at the Sustainable Agriculture Project on the Allendale Campus and Meijer Campus in Holland. 

The honey is available to purchase for $8 per bottle in Room 324 of Lake Ontario Hall and at the front desk at the Meijer Campus Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

GVSU hosting flu shot clinics

With the cold weather fast approaching, flu season is nearly upon us. To combat this, Grand Valley State University is offering flu shot clinics.

These clinics are open to students, retirees, dependents, community members, and faculty and staff members. Staffed by the GVSU Family Health Center, these clinics are available at a variety of locations, dates and times. 

For faculty and staff members, retirees, and dependents, the cost of the vaccine is covered. However, students have the option of having the $40 cost billed to their health insurance or charged to their student account, or they have the option to bring alternative payment.
