Students have four more days to enter their five-word description of Grand Valley State University for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship.
Each GVSU student is able to enter three separate times, and the top five finishers will be revealed at the President’s Ball on Feb. 17. The top 10 will be narrowed down to those five based on creativity, originality, relevance and emotiveness.
Dave Poortvliet, the web manager for GVSU’s Institutional Marketing, said there have been 2,064 entries since the contest began on Jan. 9.
“It’s really been fun seeing students share about their experience at GVSU in only five words. The caliber is excellent, as expected from our student body,” Poortvliet said.
He added the department did not know what to expect since this is its first time doing Laker5, but that he does expect a consistent flow of submissions to continue through Friday.
According to the Laker5 website, “The significance of the number five is that it represents each decade of the university’s service to the community.”

The scholarship amounts are: $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, $500 for third place and $250 for the two runners-up.
