GV to hold aboriginal art exhibit
The “Drawn From the Desert: Australian Aboriginal Paintings from the Central and Western Deserts” exhibit, facilitated by Grand Valley State University, is being held in the West Wall Gallery of the L. V. Eberhard Center Monday, July 24.
The exhibit is open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.
A gift of Australian aboriginal paintings was given to GVSU, featuring artists from Papunya and its surrounding regions. Papunya was the last community to take in Australian aboriginal people when the Australian government was removing them from their land between 1940 and 1960. The community also gave birth to the contemporary Australian aboriginal art movement.
The exhibit has paintings that give insight into the lives of aboriginal people—detailing their hopes, ancient stories and symbols—and give a depiction of life in the desert they called home.
GV to host business workshop
Grand Valley State University offers a course that is designed for students who are considering self-employment or who may want to start their own business.

This workshop will contain an introductory session to help aspiring entrepreneurs assess their abilities to lead and manage a business and will continue with assistance on evaluating market and sales potential for their products and services. The workshop will also help aspiring entrepreneurs determine start-up costs and finance options, as well as introduce business planning and what the necessary steps are to getting started.
If you would like to register for this event after Wednesday, July 19, at 8 a.m., please call (616) 331-7370.
