Cycling for a cause

A 100-mile bike ride, known as the Allegrina 100, will take place for the fifth time on June 23 through the Saugatuck area. The event is held to raise funds for the John Allegrina Nontraditional Student Memorial Scholarship at Grand Valley State University. The scholarship is awarded to GVSU juniors or seniors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to help nontraditional students better their life circumstances through education. The Allegrina is a social biking experience with mileage options ranging from 30 to 100 miles, including an “ice cream cruiser” ride for families with children. Cost to participate is $25 to ride, or just $10 for the party and ice cream. Children under 5 attend free, and all funds raised go to the scholarship.
