Campus picnic leaves zero waste
Sep 4, 2013
For the first time in Grand Valley State University history, the all-campus picnic following convocation on Aug. 23 produced no waste. A team of 15 people from the student-led Campus Dining Green Team were stationed throughout the picnic to assist students, faculty and staff members sort out their waste into compost and recycle bins. The picnic collected more than 1,010 pounds of compost and recycled 1,500 water bottles. The Green Team plans to lead another zero waste initiative at GVSU’s home-opener football game against Azusa Pacific University in Lubbers Stadium on Sept. 6.
