GV library dean appointed to Library of Michigan board
Lee Van Orsdel, dean of Grand Valley State University libraries, has been appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees, effective immediately.
The board Van Orsdel joins makes recommendations to the Michigan Department of Education on issues pertaining to the Library of Michigan.
Van Orsdel will take a three-year term, expiring on Oct. 1, 2014. Van Orsdel has been at GVSU since 2005 and has more than 30 years of library experience.
Fitness and Wellness Center to offer stress and sleep screening
The Fitness and Wellness Center at Grand Valley State University is offering free stress and sleep screening to all GVSU students, faculty and staff, before the week of finals.
Space in the free screenings is limited and registration is required, with two separate sessions on Dec. 5. from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Dec 6. from noon to 4 p.m.
The screenings will look to evaluate levels of stress, inform participants on how stress affects health and how to manage stress levels. To register contact the Fitness and Wellness Center at [email protected] or call 616-331-3659.
Historian to speak on Jacqueline Kennedy
Jason Duncan, an Aquinas College historian, is being hosted by Grand Valley State University’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies to speak about the life of John F. Kennedy’s wife, Jacqueline.
The presentation will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, 300 Pearl St. NW in Grand Rapids.
Duncan’s presentation, “JFK through Jackie’s Eyes,” will discuss information following the former president’s death along with newly released interviews of Jacqueline Kennedy.
