Senior Grand Valley State University thrower Sam Lockhart has been named the Division II Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Lockhart went undefeated in 12 shot put and discus events and earned National Athlete of the Week honors three separate times during the outdoor season. She earned national titles in the discus throw and shot put, and she finished third in the hammer throw.

Her coach, Blaine Maag, was named the Assistant of the Year after helping Lockhart throughout the season.

Lockhart is the first GVSU athlete to win the women’s field athlete of the year award in the outdoor season. This past indoor season, she was named the Field Athlete of the Year, as well.
