Exam Cram

Students at Grand Valley State University have the opportunity to release some of the stress caused by studying for exams this week. University Libraries has planned a week of free events for students participate in. Events include: yoga, coloring, therapy dogs, a book exchange and other activities. The Mary Idema Pew Library will begin 24-hour operation Monday, Dec. 5 with the Steelcase Library offering extended hours beginning the same day. Argo Tea will expand operation hours and free coffee will be served in the Steelcase Library starting at 6 p.m. every day until it’s gone. For a full list of events, visit www.gvsu.edu/library/examcram.

Alumni website updates

Grand Valley State University alumni now have the option to post information on a new website called “Laker Landings.” Laker Landings is a place where alumni can update others about news, their careers, any marriages or births and even adoptions that have happened. Originally, these posts used to be printed in Grand Valley Magazine. They were moved online so GVSU alumni could have more timely information and updates. Alumni can submit different types of updates include: anniversary, adoption/birth, award/recognition, job updates, involvement with the community, military service and any weddings. Users can also upload and post photos as well. Go to www.gvsu.edu/lakerlandings to see the new website update.

GV partners with Rockford High School

Grand Valley State University has partnered with Rockford High School to provide opportunities for high school seniors to earn college credit due to a new partnership. The program began this fall and students can earn six credit hours in the allied health sciences degree program at GVSU before they enter college. Currently, there are 25 seniors taking courses at a discounted tuition rate. The course is taught by GVSU associate professor Julie Alles and honors physiology teacher Rick Folcik. There are several class options for student to take, including “Introduction to Health Care and Health Information management.

GV Community reading project

Grand Valley State University has hosted its annual Community Reading Project that provides students, faculty and staff and the West Michigan community members with great reads. The project focuses on providing people with good books that talk about relevent, cultural issues. The book that was chosen for the current Community Reading Project is “The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas” by Anand Giridharadas. Giriharadas is a New York Times columnist and has appeared on many national media outlets including MSNBC and CNN before the presidential election.

GVPD encourages safe driving habits.

In light of the recent snowfall on Grand Valley State University’s campus, the police department is encouraging students, faculty and staff to drive with caution and avoid being on roadways when possible due to the possibility of ice. Follow the GVPD Twitter at @GVSUPolice for updates on road closures, accident notifications and university closures.
