Parking for commuter students goes down in price

Starting in the fall of 2013, there will be a designated area for student commuters to park in with reduced pricing.

Lisa Garringer, parking systems coordinator, said this area for student commuters to park in will be located in Lot J behind the Laker Village apartments and will be able to fit 300 student commuters with a reduced cost option price for $50 per semester for both full-time and part-time students. Part-time students will not receive a part-time rate discount on the permit. She added that for the first time in parking history here at GVSU, the permit will be sold on a first come first serve basis starting on July 1.

In addition, she said the permits will only be available for sale over-the-counter at the Police Department.

“Due to the limited number of permits being issued, they will not be available online,” Garringer said. A waitlist for those students interested in the permit will be created and will expire following the University’s return for refund schedule which ends on Sep 21, 2013.”

She added that should permits become available for students on the waitlist, they will be sold through the end of September and that the permits won’t be offered at a discounted rate to students on the waitlist.
