1.6% increase set for 2013 housing rates

Grand Valley State University students living on campus next fall will see a 1.6 percent increase in housing costs, approved by the university’s Board of Trustees last week, bringing the per-semester cost of both a traditional style living center and a 14-meal plan up by $40, costing residents $2,740 and $1,300 respectively.
The Housing budget for fiscal year 2013-14 was cut by $1.3 million from the previous year, totaling at $44.9 million in 2012-13 compared to this year’s total of $46.2 million.
This past fall saw an all-time high in occupancy rates at GVSU, with 5,855 students living on campus in fall 2012. 7,387 students purchased a university meal plan for the 2012-13 school year.
