One of a handful of outlets on campus for students to publish their writing, Grand Valley State University’s official literary and art journal is now accepting submissions.

Fishladder, which is edited by students and filled with undergraduate writings and artwork, is an annual publication that comes out each spring.

In addition to art and photography, Fishladder publishes fiction, poetry, nonfiction and drama.

“We encourage writers and artists of all majors to submit their work,” said Ian McCaul, Fishladder fiction editor.

The deadline for the upcoming issue is Dec. 17. All students interested in submitting a piece of work can go to fishladder.wordpress.com for further instructions. All GVSU undergraduate students are eligible to submit.

While Fishladder contains only creative writing, students are welcome to write in any theme or genre of their choosing.

The newest issues of Fishladder are dispersed at an unveiling party every winter semester in Lake Ontario Hall. Students can also find older issues of Fishladder in the third-floor meeting room of Lake Ontario Hall.

“It’s great to have several places on campus that will accept your work,” said Erin McBain, a creative writing major. “Sometimes getting your work out to the public is just as hard as writing it.”

In addition to accepting submissions, Fishladder is also accepting applications for editor and reader positions for next year.

Fishladder is still accepting student applications to fill these positions for next fall.

“Although we’ve already chosen our staff for this year, students still wishing to get involved should look for staff applications at the start of the next fall semester,” said Lynn Dimick, current editor-in-chief. “But of course, all students can submit their writing and artwork for publication in this year’s journal.”
