Laker lacrosse tacks on sixth home game
The Grand Valley State women’s lacrosse team bolstered its 2015 schedule with the addition of a non-conference game against Regis on April 13 at 1 p.m.
As opposed to the usual early-season non-conference games, GVSU’s tilt against Regis will take place late in the season. It is currently scheduled as the 17th contest of the season for GVSU.
Regis played to a 14-3 record last season, including a 4-1 showing in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Regis finished the season ranked No. 15 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association Division II poll.
GVSU drops out of top 25, looks to bounce back
The Grand Valley State women’s basketball team (7-3, 4-2 GLIAC) will look to get back on track following a three-game skid with a home matchup against Walsh (9-3, 3-3) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
After a 7-0 start to the 2014-15 season, the Lakers embarked upon a three-game road trip on Dec. 21. GVSU went 0-3 against the likes of No. 2 Lewis, No. 11 Wayne State and Findlay.
Offensively, GVSU is led by transfer guard Brionna Barnett (14.0 points per game), sophomore forward Kayla Dawson (13.3) and senior forward Kat LaPrairie (11.7).
Walsh junior guard Kelsey Funderburgh ranks third in the GLIAC with with 18.3 points per game, while freshman Brittni Clopton adds 8.8 points per game to go with 6.2 rebounds per contest.
S&D teams brace for archrival Wayne State
After a sunbathed training trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the Grand Valley State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have returned to the snow and cold. On Saturday, both teams will host Wayne State and take part in a dual meet in Allendale at 1 p.m.
The GVSU women will look to bounce back following their loss (90-115) at Nova Southeastern, while the Laker men will look to build off a strong win (107-98). Both Warrior teams will compete for the first time since participating in the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Dec. 6.
