Red Shoes Project installation
Taking inspiration from Mexican artist Elina Chauvet, the Grand Valley State University department of modern languages and literatures, in conjunction with other GVSU departments and community organizations, will be hosting the installation for the Red Shoes Project Saturday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Red Shoes Project is dedicated to victims of human trafficking and gendered violence, and is a symbol of solidarity in uniting against an issue that sees girls and women disappearing, being hurt and being killed.
Chauvet will be coming to the Grand Rapids area to install the piece on GVSU’s Pew Campus with the assistance of GVSU students, who also collected and painted the shoes being installed.
