Allendale area district reps set to visit GV

Grand Valley State University’s Student Senate will host a political forum on Jan. 12, bringing in the state senator and congresswoman who represent the Allendale area to campus for discussions.
State Sen. Arlan Meekhof, a Republican and the majority floor leader, and state representative Amanda Price, a Republican and the Majority Caucus vice chair, will answer students’ questions at the event.
“Students get a chance to see people who represent the Grand Valley community on campus,” said senior Christopher Murphy, a member of the Student Senate.
The Student Senate’s Political Committee is organizing the event.
Trevor TenBrink, chair of political affairs for Student Senate, said about 100 people are expected to attend.
Murphy said students will be able to write down their questions before the forum begins, then the representatives will answer as many written questions as possible.
“We are holding this event because we feel that it is necessary for the students at GV to connect with our local leaders,” TenBrink said.
The politicians will discuss school, local and statewide policies.
TenBrink added that it is a great opportunity for students to directly connect with legislators on a personal level.
“It is a privilege that these leaders are willing to commit time to speaking with us and helping us to better understand the political arena,” TenBrink said.
The event will take place in the Pere Marquette Room of the Kirkhof Center at 6 p.m.
