Grand Valley State University’s Blackboard organizations unavailable from May 3 at 5 p.m. until no later than May 7 at 5 p.m. due to a moving server host.

Blackboard administrator Jacob Romero said it means GVSU’s information technology services will be moving the currently off-site servers to new servers located on the GVSU campus.

Backup copies of all Blackboard organizations were taken last Saturday. Organizations will still have access until May 5, but any content added to the organizations after last Saturday will no be a part of the backup, and will need to be re-added following May 7.

“There needs to be a short window of time where there are no updates to the organizations,” Romero said. “That way we can transfer the data without missing any information.”

In a press release, Susan Korzinek, the director of Information Technology, said that the move will improve connectivity issues, assist with space constraints, provide further growth and controlled maintenance windows resulting in an improved efficient and effective administration of our Blackboard site.
