STAGE auditions for ‘SOAPS’
Grand Valley State University’s student organization STAGE will be hosting auditions for “SOAPS” Friday, Oct. 20, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Room 1104.
STAGE shows are written, directed and performed entirely by students.
The auditions are for an upcoming showing of one-act plays, and all students are welcome and encouraged to audition. No prior acting experience is required, and those who attend auditions do not need to have any audition pieces prepared.

Drop-In Studio to take place on Allendale Campus
For Grand Valley State University students who might be interested in pattern-making or weaving, the GVSU Drop-In Studio may offer a creative outlet. The studio sessions will occur in the Haas Center for Performing Arts in Room 1121 (the Art Gallery).
At the sessions, attendees will have tea and experiment with Islamic kilim weaving and pattern-making. The sessions are free of charge and open to the public. Tea as well as the necessary craft materials will be provided for those who attend.

Excellence Series: Bias incident reporting training
On Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the DeVos Center on Grand Valley State University’s Pew Campus, the “Excellence Series” will be hosting an event surrounding filling out a bias incident report.
The event, hosted by the GVSU Team Against Bias (TAB), will facilitate a dialogue about bias incidents. The workshop will touch on the right to free expression on GVSU’s campus, the way that expression may resonate with others on campus and how to report an incident of bias.

Open mic Wednesday, Oct. 25
For students at Grand Valley State University interested in poetry or spoken word, an event called “Roots of the Future Open Mic” is being held in the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons’ Multipurpose Room Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
At the event hosted by GVSU’s Tendons and Teeth Poetry Slam Team, those who perform are not required to have poetry memorized, and the event is not competitive. Later in the year, Tendons and Teeth will be forming a team to compete at the national level at the poetry slam competition CUPSI.
