Campus construction to alter Allendale holiday parade route

July 4 parade festivities will still continue through Grand Valley State University’s Allendale campus despite summer construction projects.

The route will be slightly different this year due to construction along North Campus Drive, with altered parking as well.

GVSU’s main entrance off of Lake Michigan Drive east of 48th Avenue will be closed, and all traffic should be redirected through the West Campus Drive entrance off of 48th STreet. Those not in the parade are asked to park in Lots F and G or Lots H, K, and P. The parade route will still be on North Campus Drive, but will begin by Lot C instead of Lot D (as in previous years) and will end at the four-way stop on South Campus Drive.

A pancake breakfast at the Allendale Christian School at will kick of the July 4 festivities with the parade following at 10 a.m., with this years’ grand marshal County Commissioner Roger Rycenga.

After the parade, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a chicken barbecue by the Lions Club, car show, petting zoo, book sale, games, hot dog eating contest, hay rides, ice cream social, quilt show as well as other holiday attractions.

A concert featuring Dockside Fever will be held in the Ceglarek Fine Arts Center at 6 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. in the park.
