Former GV cornerback signs contract with Dallas Cowboys
Mar 15, 2012
Former Grand Valley State University football player Brandon Carr signed a five-year, $50.1 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday. Details regarding guaranteed money with the contract were not immediately available.
Carr, who was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, spent the first five years of his career in Kansas City before signing with Dallas this week.
He’ll bring 211 total tackles and eight-career interceptions to a Cowboys team that ranked No. 23 in pass defense last year, allowing 244.1 yards per game.
Carr, a member of two NCAA Division II National Championship teams during his time at GVSU, was named the GLIAC Defensive Back of the year in 2007 to go with All-GLIAC and All-American honors in the same year.
The contract will put Carr as one of the highest-paid cornerbacks during the early stages of free agency. His $50.1 million contract ranks similarly to the one Cortland Finnegan signed with the St. Louis Rams and exceeds the one former Detroit Lions corner Eric Wright signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Along with Carr, Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Cameron Bradfield and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Dan Skuta remain as the three former Lakers in the NFL.
