The Student Academic Success Center is offering Grand Valley State University students a variety of workshops this semester to help them succeed both while they are in college and post-graduation.

Over the course of the winter semester, there are 19 hour-long workshops scheduled. Some of the workshops the SASC offers are “How to Study for CHM & BIO,” “Ace that Test!” and “Power Study Strategies.”

“We wanted to create workshops that would be useful to a variety of students, regardless of their academic standing,” said Mariana Naddaf, graduate assistant in the SASC. “Just about anyone could benefit from time management tips and overall study strategies.”

One goal of the SASC is to see an increase in attendance, as many students are not aware of the workshops.

A personal favorite of Naddaf’s is the workshop “There’s an APP for that!” which allows students to learn how to download and use free apps that can help them with organization, reading, writing and scanning documents. Naddaf added that students enjoy this workshop because it allows them to learn how to use their smart devices as an academic supplement.

The SASC has also partnered with the Mary Idema Pew library to include topics such as “Google Like a Librarian,” “Plagiarism: To Cite or Not to Cite, That is the Question!” and “Library Databases Demystified: Finding Information More Effectively.”

Additionally, student organizations, housing residential assistants and Greek Life can request a specific day and time for an academic success workshop that they feel would benefit their fellow students on behalf of the SASC. To do this, they can email Mariana Naddaf at [email protected].
