Grand Valley charter school closes doors

One of Grand Valley State University’s charter schools in the Muskegon area is closing due to low enrollment and academic performance. After a decision made Friday by the school board, in conjunction with GVSU’s Charter Schools Office, WayPoint Academy will close after the 2012-2013 school year. The school had 22 people on staff with about 228 students. The Grand Valley Charter Schools Office will be working with area districts to ensure the students of WayPoint have quality school options for the upcoming year. WayPoint Academy will be one of seven charter schools in Michigan set to close after the 2012-2013 school year.
