Brewer’s Grove Kickoff Event

5 p.m. on Aug. 31

Celebrating the start of this year’s Brewer’s Grove Project, Harmony Brewing Company will be hosting a kickoff event. There will be five different tree-themed beers and one tree themed cider available at the event and a portion of the profits will be donated to the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks. The event is free to the public and begins at 5 p.m.

Debonair: A Swingin’ Part at the Downtown Market

6:30 p.m. on Sept. 3

Featuring live music, cocktails from local bars and a ballroom setting “Debonair” is a theme party taking you back to 1940s hosted by the Grand Rapids Original Swing Society and the Grand Rapids Cocktail Guilding. The music will be performed by Shimmie Pearl who will play swing music while free dance lessons are offered to those on the dance floor. Theme dress is encouraged and prizes will be given to the best-dressed man and woman of the evening. Tickets are for sale now and there will be a $15 cover charge at the door.

First Fridays Gallery Hops

6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 4

On South Division, between Fulton and Wealthy, local artists will set up shop to show off and sell their work. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. South Division will be filled with artists selling their handmade goods as well as food and drink special provided by local restaurants. The event is supported by Dwelling Place’s Neighborhood Revitalization Department who hope to bring business to area. Taking place monthly, First Friday Gallery Hops gives guests the opportunity to check out new exhibitions, events and features in the stores, galleries and restaurants on South Division.

Circle Theatre: Catch Me If You Can

Premiering this week at the Circle Theatre, “Catch Me If You Can” follows the story of Frank W. Abagnale Jr. as he runs away from home to chase his dreams. After running away, Frank uses his charm, imagination and forged checks to pose as a pilot, a lawyer and a doctor. Enjoying a life full of perks, Frank even wins the girl of his dreams and all is well until he catches the attention of an FBI agent named Carl Hanratty. As Carl chases Frank around the country, the two form an unlikely friendship and ultimately decide to work together.
