GV students boost local blood supply

About 300 people from Grand Valley State University donated blood from March through April during the College Care Challenge, a student blood drive contest sponsored by Michigan Blood. Participation in the blood drives at GVSU increased 163 percent from the previous year, which helped the university receive the MVP award.

The drives were coordinated by the Community Service Learning Center in Student Life at GVSU. Over the course of the 2012-2013 academic year, the university hosted 44 drives total and 11 during the contest.
