We don’t know about you, but our spring break was too short, and we wanted to take our editorial space for this issue to say: Hang In there, GVSU.

In 48 days, students, faculty and staff alike will finally get a much-needed breather from the chaos and stresses of academia.

According to numbers provided by the online college resource Classes and Careers, 3 million students enroll in some form of higher education each year.

Of those 3 million students, 33 percent will eventually drop out of school, and 40 percent of those students will attend college only to never receive their degree.

The question then is, why is this the case? Why do students begin to attend college only to never get the one thing they came for?

On www.reuters.com, Lou Carlozo wrote an article called ‘Why college students stop short of a degree’ and in it he said that the majority of students drop out of college because they are either not properly prepared for the challenges college can provide, they cannot cover the cost, or because of family issues.

Over the next 48 days, us students will be asked to complete exams, write papers, and prepare presentations – all while trying to live a somewhat normal life, and for future grads, hold on to those more sunny moments that make college worth remembering right.

So while you may be dealing with one, two, or all of these, remember that the end is near, and how far you’ve come is all of the motivation you need to cross the finish line.
