Senior goalkeeper Abbey Miller of the No. 1 Grand Valley State University women’s soccer team has been named the GLIAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week after posting five shutouts to start the 2013 season.
Miller has stopped each of the 13 shots she has faced so far this year after replacing the NCAA Division II all-time shutout leader Chelsea Parise, who graduated. Parise was the only other keeper in school history to start a season with five consecutive shutouts. GVSU (4-0-1) will attempt to stay hot in the third game of its four-game road trip against Saginaw Valley State University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
