​Silent march and other events planned for MLK week

Grand Valley State University has planned a number of events during King Commemoration Week to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. At 10 a.m. on Jan. 19, people can participate in marathon readings, crafting, lectures or a film series that all aim to educate on the topic of social justice.

After leading a silent march, Sybrina Fulton will speak at 1:30 p.m. in the Fieldhouse about her experience dealing with death of her son Trayvon who was shot at the age of 17 in 2012.

In addition, presentations by College of Education faculty members will take place on Jan. 20 through 22. The LGBT Center is also planning on screening a movie during the week.

The Community Service Learning Center will end the week-long celebration with Saturday, Jan. 24 dedicated to serving the community.
