Feminist history celebration set for Wednesday, March 28

The Grand Valley State University women, gender and sexuality (WGS) studies department is set to host a celebration in honor of March being Feminist History Month on Wednesday, March 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Room 2270.

The event, which will feature feminist conversations, giveaway prizes and Mediterranean-themed food, is the annual WGS event to celebrate Feminist History Month. All are invited to join in the celebration with students, faculty and staff.

‘Yikes 2’ showing set for this weekend

Grand Valley State University’s student-run entertainment organization STAGE is set to host a sequel to their skit comedy show “Yikes!” on Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24, at 8 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Area 51.

STAGE students write, direct, produce and perform in all of their pieces. The upcoming sequel, called “Yikes 2: Electric Boogaloo,” will feature the same skit-based content as the original “Yikes!” performances. The event is free to attend, and all members of the GVSU community are invited. The event will be featuring adult content, so interested students should attend the event at their own risk.

‘LakerThon 2018’ to be held Saturday, March 24

The Grand Valley State University Dance Marathon is set to host an inspirational and fundraising dance event for the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital called “LakerThon 2018” on Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center Grand River Room. 

The event will feature stories from families whose lives have been impacted by the hospital, craft-based activities, Zumba, dancing, and raising money for the hospital and the children and families who rely on the services it offers.

Theater production of ‘J.B.’ set to open Friday, March 23

The Grand Valley State University Department of Music, Theatre and Dance is set to present the West Michigan premiere of “J.B.” on Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m., with a second show on Saturday, March 31, at the same time, in the Louis Armstrong Theatre in the Haas Center for Performing Arts.

“J.B.” is a retelling of the Biblical story of Job using today’s terminology. The piece has won a Tony Award, and it won a Pulitzer Prize in 1959. “J.B.” attempts to convey the misery and mess of our modern society, but uses hope and confidence to do so.
