Snyder appoints two new members to GV board of trustees
Grand Valley State University’s board of trustees will have two new faces on it beginning Jan 1, 2019 after Governor Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Sue Janernoa and Elizabeth Emmitt to the board. The duo will replace outgoing members David Hooker and John Kennedy.
Janernoa is popularly known for her community service, including leadership roles for Make-a-Wish Michigan, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation and ArtPrize Grand Rapids.
Emmitt has been working as deputy chief of staff for Snyder since 2011. Emmitt has also gained experience through her service as director of constituent relations for the Secretary of State.
Graduate School Fair explores educational futures
On Wednesday, Oct 24, the Henry Hall Atrium will be full of information for students interested in furthering their education. Hosted by the GVSU Career Center, the 2018 Graduate School Fair will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the atrium.
A variety of colleges and universities from Michigan and surrounding states will be represented to showcase their opportunities for graduate level study. Guests are invited to further explore their career and life goals and prepare for the future.

LIB 100 Peer Mentors host Make a Difference Day
Saturday, Oct. 27 is Make a Difference Day, the nation’s largest day of community service.
In honor of the day, GVSU’s Community Service Learning Center is looking to serve a plethora of Grand Rapids and Allendale area nonprofit organizations. Nearly 350 students participate in the service celebration every year.
Students are encouraged to sign up online to get involved in the day of community service.

Padnos International Center collaborates to host Halloween Carnival
Grand Valley State University’s Padnos International Center, ELS and Bringing Together the World (BTW) will be hosting a Halloween Carnival in the Kirkhof Center’s Grand River Room from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25.
The event will include a variety of activities, such as pumpkin carving, a donut on a string eating contest, a mummy wrap and more. Guests are encouraged to come dressed up in costumes to win prizes at the costume content during the event.
All guests are welcome and food and beverages will be provided.
