Student Leaders recognized at Venderbrush reception

Grand Valley State University will be recognizing student leaders at the Venderbush Leadership Reception on Friday in the Pere Marquette Room. Nominees and the recipient of the Student Organization Center’s Immediate Impact Award will be announced and new members of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honorary Society will be recognized.

The keynote speaker is Dan Breuker, a GVSU alumnus who worked in the Office of Student Life and was a resident assistant before he graduated in 1992. He is senior account manager for Kentwood Office Furniture and an active member of Racing Awareness.

Haas named to NCAA committee

Grand Valley State University President Thomas J. Haas was recently named to the Executive Committee Finance Committee for the NCAA Presidents Council. Haas has served on the council since 2011.

Alumnus writes play for GV

The theater program at Grand Valley has commissioned a new play on the Iraq War by the distinguished playwright and alumnus Max Bush (‘72).

“An Identified Enemy” will receive its first staged readings in the Louis Armstrong Theatre on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 6 at 2 p.m. The play, open to the public with free admission, runs approximately 90 minutes without an intermission.

In staged readings, part of the development process of a play, actors perform with scripts in-hand and without full costumes, set or effects used in the final version of the production.

As artist-in-residence since November, Bush developed his script with the aid of Iraq War veterans with a company of 25 students who have been working with him in a specially-created 50-hour workshop. The drama tells the story of Jamie Foster, a war veteran now enrolled in college, as he tries to piece together the truth about his friend Jalil, a local Iraqi national.
