Who to Watch
GVSU
Charles Johnson
Wide receiver
The junior has put together some big numbers this season and will look to continue that on Saturday. Michigan Tech boasts the top pass defense in the GLIAC, but with Johnson’s ability to get vertical and fellow receiver Jovonne Augustus’ success near the goal line, the GVSU passing game has proven deadly in recent weeks.
Jarrod Cox
Strong safety
Cox’s play as the last line of defense for the Lakers has been important all season long. His 50 tackles rank second on the team, and that tackling will be key with Michigan Tech aiming to run the ball at every opportunity on Saturday. Expect the Lakers to bring Cox into the box to contain the running game.
Michigan Tech
Akeem Cason
Running back
An All-GLIAC kick returner last season, Cason has led the run-first Michigan Tech offense this season. His production running the ball and catching the ball out of the backfield will determine how much the Huskies’ redshirt freshman Tyler Scarlett will have to throw.
Todd Storm
Defensive end
The defending GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year will force the GVSU offense into some quick decisions in the passing game. His five sacks are second on the team, but he has gotten to the quarterback and laid a hit on him six times this year. Storm will be one of the top priorities for the GVSU offensive line.
