GV student dies

Grand Valley State University senior Josh Sutton was found dead Thursday. University officials told media outlets Friday morning that Sutton appeared to have taken his own life.

Members of the GVSU community gathered Friday afternoon in the Cook-DeWitt Center for an informal memorial organized by Campus Ministries. The staff invites students, faculty and staff to contact them if they are in need of support or prayer. Campus minister Pam Bush will be available after 6 p.m. today at 616-283-7755.

Sutton, who was known to many students on campus as the “campus unicyclist” because of his preferred mode of transportation, was an accounting major from Madison Heights, Mich. He also appeared on his unicycle in GVSU’s 2010 LipDub video.

“He was a great person and will be missed by all who knew him,” his parents, Dan and Brenda Sutton, wrote in a Facebook post. “I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to tell those around them how special they are before the opportunity passes. If the world becomes a better place because of this lesson we’ve learned, it might almost be worth the pain we are all feeling.”

There will be a viewing from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday and the funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Both viewing and funeral will be held at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, located at 32000 Schoenherr Rd. in Warren, Mich.
