Soccer advances to National Championship game

Two goals by sophomore forward Ashley Botts lifted the Grand Valley State University soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Florida Institute of Technology in the NCAA Semifinals Thursday afternoon in Louisville, Ky.
Botts knocked in goals at the 77-minute and 86-minute marks.
GVSU (21-1-2) will face the University of California-San Diego, 1-0 winners over the College of Saint Rose (N.Y.), with a second consecutive National Championship at stake noon Saturday. The Tritons enter the matchup with a 19-2-3 record.
Last season, the Lakers edged California State University-Dominguez Hills 1-0 in the finals to claim the program’s first-ever National Championship.
