Beebe tabbed as DII National Swimmer of the Week

Grand Valley State University senior Aaron Beebe was named the Division II National Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com for his efforts at the 2011 Calvin College Winter Invitational.

Throughout the invitational Beebe hit NCAA Division II “A” marks in eight total events including five individual races and three relays.

The senior also set four GVSU school records in the 200-yard IM (1:49.51), 400-yard IM (3:54.09) and 200-yard free (1:36.56) and was a part of the school-record setting 200-yard medley relay team.

With four new school records, Bebee has now set seven different program records during his tenure as a Laker.

GVSU will return to action on Jan. 2 at Nova Southeastern University .

Botts, Witt earn GLIAC Commissioner’s Award

Two Grand Valley State University student-athletes received the GLIAC Commissioner’s Award for their achievements in the classroom and on the field throughout the Fall.

Anthony Witt, the Midwest Regional Athlete of the Year, was honored for the second time in his career after leading the GVSU men’s cross country team to a third place finish at the national championship meet.

Witt, a senior, also has a 3.63 GPA in biomedical science.

Junior forward Ashley Botts also received the award after leading the GVSU women’s soccer to the National Championship match for the third-consecutive year.

Botts, the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year, scored 20 goals on the season while studying biology and carrying 3.64 GPA in the classroom.
