As a part of the Grand Valley State University American Marketing Association (AMA), a team of seven students who are on the board of the association attended the 33rd-annual International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans on March 24 to 26, bringing home three national awards.

“I am so proud of them and so excited for them,” said AMA faculty adviser and affiliate professor Maria Landon. “They’ve worked as a team, increased the membership and had lots of really good, interesting programs.”

Landon said one of the awards was for new and revitalized chapter and the students gave both the chapter and organization a “shot of adrenaline” by increasing the membership. The other two awards were outstanding communications and an outstanding chapter plan, a plan for the year that includes goals and objectives of the association’s board members.

Landon said the purpose of GVSU’s AMA is to prepare students for what they will do in the future regarding marketing. There is a local chapter for older members of the community which students can join after graduation.

AMA meetings are held every other Thursday at 6 p.m. in the University Club, Building C at GVSU’s Pew Campus.
