Ottawa County Planning Commission to host fracking seminar

The Ottawa County Planning Commission will host a seminar this week for local government officials and county residents on the issues surrounding hydraulic “fracking.”
A local environmental consultant, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, the Michigan Oil and Gas Association, the Committee to Ban Fracking in Michigan, the law firm Scholten Fant and the Michigan State University Extension will provide information at the seminar.
Various topics to be covered include the geology of Ottawa County, the history of Michigan fracking, state regulations, the well drilling process, environmental safety precautions and concerns, economic impacts and more.
The seminar will be held 7 p.m. July 17 in the Main Conference Room of the Ottawa County Fillmore Street Complex, 12220 Fillmore St., West Olive, Mich.
