Students, faculty spark MENA protest discussion
Oct 3, 2012
For over a year, protests in the Middle East and North Africa have sparked a discussion about the people of the region, their autonomy and their relevance to the Western world. Some recent protesters have voiced overwhelmingly anti-American opinions, pressing Westerners to understand the complexity of the issues at hand. Tonight, Grand Valley State University students will gather for a panel discussion on the recent anti-U.S. protests and faculty will address the issue from various perspectives based on their academic specialties. Samia Fitoura, a GVSU Tunisian student, will also discuss the perspective of the Arab youth. The event runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public in the Kirkhof Center, in Room 2215 on GVSU’s Allendale Campus.
