Infant dies in Laker Village
Nov 8, 2011
Grand Valley State University Police and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the death of an 18-month-old girl who died at the on-campus Laker Village Apartments this weekend.
The child had been visiting relatives overnight at the apartment complex.
Police responded to a medical emergency call on Sunday morning and found the child unresponsive when they arrived. Paramedics were also called to the scene but attempts to revive the child were not successful.
An initial autopsy was conducted, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. Full autopsy results may take up to eight weeks.
Police said the child showed no visible signs of trauma, but the case will remain under investigation. The university has immediately made support services available to the child’s family members.
