GVSU announces faculty research grant recipients

The Grand Valley State University Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence revealed recipients for two faculty research grant programs Friday, Nov. 10. The two grant programs are the Catalyst Grants for Research and Creativity and the Collaborative Research and Creative Activity Initiative. 

Fifteen faculty members received Catalyst Grants for research in various fields, while two groups received Collaborative Research grants. The Catalyst Grants award up to $3,000, while the Collaborative Research grants award up to $10,000.

Fall Science Update to take place at GVSU 

The Grand Valley State University Regional Math and Science Center will host a Fall Science Update conference Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center. 

The theme for the conference is “Incorporating STEM by Design.” Ebiri Nkubga and Rick Mushing of Kent ISD STEM Consultants will be the keynote speakers. The cost to attend is $45 per person or $20 for undergraduate students and $10 for undergraduate students without lunch.

Padnos International Center to host study abroad information session for students with disabilities

The Grand Valley State University Padnos International Center will host an informational session on studying abroad for students with disabilities Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Room 1104. 

The presentation will address issues for students with disabilities and share resources for students with disabilities who wish to study abroad. The session is LIB 100-approved.

Applied Medical Device Institute to host educational forum at GVSU 

Grand Valley State University’s applied Medical Device Institute (aMDI) will host a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Lunch & Learn on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at noon in the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences Auditorium. 

The topic of the session is service animals and their partnership role in health care. The session is free and open to the public, but lunch will not be provided.

Geography department to host presentation on Dutch geographic history

The Grand Valley State University geography department will host a presentation on the history of Dutch geographic connections to West Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 4 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Room 2263. 

The presentation is expected to last one hour and will address the development of Dutch culture and sustainability in the region and in the U.S. as a whole, among other topics.
