LGBT Resource Center to discuss retrospective identity labeling

The Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center will be holding an Open Door Discussion on retrospective identity labeling on Dec. 1 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The discussion will focus on historical figures that lived before contemporary Western identity labels. According to the event webpage, the discussion aims to “celebrate queer history while respecting everyone’s true selves, past and present.”

A Zoom option is also available for the discussion. 

Professional Society for Minority in Honors to hold Karaoke Night 

The Professional Society for Minority in Honors (PSMH) will be hosting a Karaoke Night on Nov. 28 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in collaboration with the Frederik Meijer Honors College. The event, which will be held in the Cook-Dewitt Center Auditorium, will have singing and light snacks.

It’s recommended that students should RSVP on LakerLink. 

CAB to hold sticker board decorating

As a part of Winterfest activities, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will be holding Grab and Go Canvas Sticker Board Decorating. Held in the Kirkhof Center lobby from 10:30 a.m. to noon, participants can decorate provided canvases with stickers. 

Belly Dance Club to perform Fall Showcase

Belly Dance Club will be performing their Fall Showcase on Dec. 2 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Kirkhof Center’s Grand River Room. The event will include guest performances and provided food. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. 

According to the event webpage, “Belly Dance Club is a body-positive organization that aspires to teach members the art of belly dancing and being confident in their own skin.”

Whale Radio to host benefit show for the DAAC

Grand Valley State University’s student-run radio station, Whale Radio, will be holding a benefit show for the Division Avenue Arts Collective (DAAC) on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. The DAAC, a volunteer-run performing arts venue, is facing closure and all proceeds of the station’s show will go towards supporting the venue. The event will take place at the DAAC and include student musician performances. 

Tickets for the show are available for purchase.

Metals BFA exhibition to display jewelry

The Metals BFA Exhibition will display the jewelry and metalworking of Mike Blair and Cassidy Grevemeyer from Nov. 28 through Dec. 7 in Room 1121 of the Haas Center for Performing Arts. 

A reception for the exhibition will be held on Dec. 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
